Pharaons Rally: A race for everybody

The 14th edition of Pharaons Rally will be THE meeting that will gather all rally-raid fans in the Egyptian desert for a race that is renewed each year, and 2011 holds many innovations. Don’t forget the dates: from October 1st to the 9th!
Pharaons Rally 2011 will be a simplified race if compared to precedent editions. As we adapt the race to current times, this year´s way will allow everyone to live a much more balanced rally!
This renewal will not take out its competitive level, and Pharaons keeps its status as the most selective meeting in the calendar of cross country events. Our race includes the pleasure of steering in the desert, remarkable bivouacs and a highly organized safety along with the medical team that has assured this service for twelve years with passion and professionalism…
How is it possible to accomplish all this? The organization has decided to concentrate Pharaons 2011 in less bivouacs, but with longer selective sections, aiming to have the most intersections of competitors´ tracks and the tarmac. These changes will allow assistances to carry out their work better because their driving/traveling time is reduced for them and for the rally caravan as well.
The final result of these innovations give us a world race at the highest standards with more than 2800 kilometers that will propose to competitors all kinds of ground that the desert can offer: lots of sand, thousands of dunes, technical trails for steering, fast sections that will require navigation, and wide open spaces… all in six legs, four over 400 kilometers and two others slightly shorter. And to all that, we must add the great sensations you can have while crossing the Egyptian Desert, well-known by some of you, and a whole new world to discover to others.


A RACE FOR EVERYBODY
Pharaons Rally will not only be the last leg of the FIM Cross Country Rally World Championship (bikes) and the penultimate leg of the FIA´s Cross Country Rally World Cup (cars). It will be the opportunity for all – assistance and actors – to face a race over breathtaking landscapes that change kilometer after kilometer: this is the magic of the Egyptian Desert!
Both, Start and Finish will be held in the world´s best known scenario: The Giza Pyramids.
It will be a 100% of adventure without renouncing to comforts and safety. To participate in Pharaons Rally is the possibility to enter a race in a very rational way. For this, we propose you two ways of joining the challenge in different categories, “Classic” or “Raid”, both created for rally lovers and also for those who want to live in the heart of a beautiful desert at their own rhythm.

Dakar Challenge:
Cairo-Mar del Plata direct

On the Rallye des Pharaons 2011, between 3rd and 8th October this year, a motorcycle rider will win a place on the Dakar, on the condition of winning the Dakar Challenge. The latter is dedicated to discovering promising riders and giving them a chance to demonstrate their skill in the most important of rally raid events.
A first challenge awaits these riders. Motorcyclists registered on the Rallye des Pharaons are entering a demanding event, with six legs and a total distance of close to 3,000 kilometres on the programme.

Getting through all of the tracks and dunes of Egypt is already a considerable endurance test. Indeed, for many it represents a major success in itself. But rally raid enthusiasts nevertheless cultivate the desire to test themselves on the Dakar experience.

It sometimes takes a long time to put in place the possibility of realising this ambition, which in any case requires maturity. However, the Dakar teams have decided to work in partnership with the Rallye des Pharaons in order to organise a Dakar Challenge, whose winner will be invited to take part in the Dakar 2012.

In order to give priority to the discovery of talents, the Dakar Challenge will be reserved for amateur and often beginner riders (*).

They will then vie between themselves “behind the handlebars” throughout the week of the competition. Only the participant who comes highest in the general ranking amongst the participants in the Dakar Challenge will be rewarded.

(*) Conditions of entry: never to have taken part in a Dakar nor to have appeared amongst the top 10 competitors in an FIM cross-country rally.
